This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an ambitious, forward looking and strategic thinking credit union. 

St. Canice’s Credit Union is a not-for-profit organisation and one of the largest community credit unions in the country. With 70,000 plus members and a diverse product base. St. Canice’s Credit Union is seeking a Risk Analyst to join the Risk function.

Principal responsibilities of the Role:

The Risk Analyst will report to the Head of Risk. This is a permanent full time position. The Risk Analyst will be responsible for assisting the Head of Risk with all aspects of the risk management function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the identification of risks in the credit union across all areas
  • Assist in the assessment and testing of the controls in the credit union
  • Identify the gaps in assessments and assist the Head of Risk in implementing and improving controls in conjunction with the risk owners
  • Identify risks which are close to tolerance and report to the Head of Risk and Risk Owner
  • Assist with reporting of the current state of risks in the credit union to:
    • Senior Management
    • The Audit/Risk/Compliance Committee
    • The Board of Directors
  • Ensure that the credit union is operating within its risk appetite
  • Assist with the management and implementation of risk mitigation plans to address control deficiencies
  • Day to day management of the risk management software
  • Liaising with all departments to identify department specific risks to ensure the risk register is kept up to date
  • Day to day management of the policy framework within the credit union
  • Prepare and present risk assessments to the Head of Risk as required
  • Assist with the management of the Audit/Risk/Compliance Committee
  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of annual, and ongoing, risk training and ensure that all Staff, Directors and Volunteers of the credit union are receiving adequate risk training
  • Assist with the ongoing development and communication of a risk aware culture within the credit union
  • Ensure that KRIs are up to date and fit for purpose
  • Engage with external stakeholders, where required
  • Interact with the compliance team and internal auditors as required
  • Provide ongoing risk management advice to all officers of the credit union 

The successful candidate should have the following: 

  • Qualifications relevant to the role with a commitment to complete further studies appropriate to the needs of the position
  • Experience working in a risk function in the financial services industry 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong member or consumer focus
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail, strong analytical skills, excellent organisational skills and highly motivated to work on own initiative
