Community Connect History

In 2022 St. Canice’s Credit Union set aside a fund of €250,000 to be distributed to worthy causes across the common bond.

To qualify for funding the projects had to be sustainable over several years and improve the social, educational, and economic wellbeing of the people living in those areas. You can view a full list of recipients below.

Carmel Butler CEO stated

“A fund of €250,000 is an amazing amount of money to be distributed especially by one credit union but it is a tribute to our members who choose St. Canice’s repeatedly for their financial needs. When our members use our services, they not only help to keep a thriving financial institution in their local area for them and their families, they also directly contribute to efforts like Community Connect which puts money directly back into our local areas.”

We received over 100 applications in total, all from brilliant groups making fantastic contributions to their area. After a lengthy process of reviewing the applications, the Community Connect Committee and the Board decided on the 57 projects which would receive support and their share of the €250,000.

The successful groups range from sporting organisations like Graiguenamanagh GAA to social supports like Amber Women’s refuge and The Good Shepherd, from schools to defibrillators and animal welfare to community cafés.
