Our Youth Current Account is now available for everyone aged 12 to 16 years.
Our Youth Current Account starts our young members on the journey to financial independence. Account holders will have immediate access to their money through a Visa Debit Card, allowing cash withdrawals and purchases, all with the trusted service of your local Credit Union.

What you need to open a
Current Account
In order to open a Current Account, you must first be a member of St. Canice’s Credit Union and resident in the Republic of Ireland.
Youth Current Accounts can be opened In Branch Only.
A parental consent form must be completed in branch to open your Current Account.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Who has access to the Youth Current Account?
A: Only the person who opened the account has access. Parents have no control, but they can transfer funds into the account in the payments section of the app if they are members of St. Canice’s Credit Union.
Q: Are there any restrictions on how the Debit Card can be used?
A: Yes, there are payment restrictions to Debit Card purchases for 12–17-year-olds. This means that Adult Websites, Betting, Gambling, Alcohol, Tobacco and Lottery purchases are blocked.
Q: Can the Debit Card be added to a Digital Wallet?
A: Not until you are 16. Google pay and Apple pay are not available because the digital usage age of consent is 16.
Q: Can a parent add money to Youth Current account?
Lodgements can be made by anyone to the Youth Current account through the online app or over the counter if they have the account number.
Q: Does opening a Youth Current account require parental/guardian consent?
A: Under 16-year-olds need consent and the consent form must be completed at the time of the application.
Q:Does the person opening the Youth Current account need to be a member of St. Canice’s Credit Union?
A: Yes, you must be a member have a minimum of €5 in your shares account.
Q: Does the parent need to be a member of St. Canice’s Credit Union?
A: No, they do not. If the parent/guardian is member we will have to ensure that the ID and proof of address is up to date on their account to proceed. If the parent/guardian is not a member they will have to provide ID and proof of address.
Q: Can a Youth Current Account be opened online?
A: No, accounts must be opened in branch.
Q: Does the person opening the account need ID and Proof of Address?
A; Yes, up to date ID and proof of address is required.
Q: Is there an Overdraft available?
A: There is no overdraft available on the Youth Current Account.
