Community Connect 2025
We were fortunate to enjoy a beautiful evening for our Community Connect 2025 event, a celebration of collaboration, innovation and local impact.
A Journey of Community Support
The journey to this evening began many months ago with planning, outreach and engagement that led to the awarding of funding to 49 community groups, clubs and volunteer associations. These groups came together to showcase their projects, which included the purchase of board games, Icelandic tents, and goalposts. Other projects included sensory gardens and walking tracks in a number of areas.
Opening Remarks from Carmel Butler
The evening opened with a welcome from our CEO Carmel Butler, who spoke about the Credit Union’s commitment to supporting communities in meaningful ways. She highlighted the role of Community Connect not just as a funding programme but as a reflection of our values. Carmel also spoke about the importance of maintaining strong relationships with local groups and how these connections are central to the Credit Union’s mission.
Keynote Speaker: Nickey Brennan
Our keynote speaker Nickey Brennan brough a wealth of experience and insight to the evening. Drawing on his involvement in the GAA, Kilkenny Age Friendly and The Watergate Theatre. he share thoughtful reflections on the power of volunteerism and the long lasting impact of community programmes.
Spotlight on Funded Projects
The heart of the event was the introduction and summary of the 49 funded projects, representing communities across Kilkenny, Laois and Carlow. Each group had a story to tell and each project reflected the unique needs and aspirations of the people they serve. We hope that by sharing these stories, groups will inspire one another and spark new ideas for future collaboration.
Community Connect: A Legacy of Investment
Since its launch in 2017, Community Connect has invested over €750,000 into local initiatives. The 2025 fund is a powerful remind of what can be achieved when communities come together with shared purpose and of the vital role a strong locally rooted Credit Union plays in supporting that vision.
