Celebrating National Volunteering Week

As we mark National Volunteering Week, it offers an ideal opportunity to think about the remarkable contributions of volunteers to the Credit Union movement and within St. Canice’s Credit Union as we celebrate our 60th anniversary in 2024. Unlike other financial institutions, credit unions thrive on the contributions of their volunteers.

We want to say a heartfelt thank you to all our volunteers, they are the lifeblood of credit unions. In the early days of these member-owned financial cooperatives, it was the dedication of volunteers that laid the foundations of what the movement would go on to become. Motivated by the desire to ensure that everyone had access to financial services, these volunteers established a cornerstone upon which institutions like St. Canice’s have been built.

Today, this tradition endures at the highest level, with boards of directors across the island, North and South generously offering their time and effort to guide their respective credit unions. However, it’s important to note that volunteering extends beyond high-level roles. Every aspect of the credit union can benefit from the dedication of volunteers.

St. Canice’s Credit Union strives to contribute in a meaningful way to the communities our members live in. This can often involve events and initiatives that happen outside the standard working day. The staff are always so generous with their free time, and we are extremely grateful for their generosity.

Volunteering at St. Canice’s Credit Union offers rewards, both personal and professional. Here are some reasons to consider getting involved:

Leadership and Management Experience  – Volunteers can assume leadership roles, gaining hands-on experience in directing the affairs and governance of a local business. This can be an invaluable addition to one’s professional portfolio.

Skill Development  – Engaging with a professional financial services provider allows volunteers to acquire new skills and knowledge, enhancing their personal and professional development.

Personal Growth  – Volunteering boosts self-confidence, provides a sense of purpose and fosters a sense of achievement. It is a chance to do something you enjoy while giving back to the community.

Community Connection  – Meet like-minded individuals, build life-long connections, and feel a sense of belonging within your community.

Remember, you don’t need to be a financial expert to volunteer. The credit union provides training and support, helping you to develop new skills, and make meaningful contributions to your community. By volunteering, you’ll not only help the credit union continue to provide essential services but also enrich your own life through personal growth and community engagement.
